Barry L. Dugger


Barry L. Dugger, 65, of Elizabethton, passed away Wednesday, February 12, 2013, at his residence.
He was a native of Carter County and the son of the late Herman and Mary Ruth Proffitt Dugger. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Rhudy and Lillie Dugger, and his maternal grandparents, Stacy and Pearl Proffitt.
Mr. Dugger was a 1965 graduate of Elizabethton High School, where he played basketball and baseball. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, having served in the Vietnam Era.
Mr. Dugger was a member of Borderview Christian Church.
Survivors include his daughter, Selena Norris Miller and husband Adam, Elizabethton; two sisters, Betty Smith and husband Bob, Gray, and Susan Fletcher and husband Tom, Elizabethton; two nieces, Kim McQueen, Jonesborough, and Melissa Townsend, Elizabethton; a nephew, Scott Fletcher, Jonesborough; two great-nieces, Katelyn Townsend and Keelan Townsend, both of Elizabethton; and three great-nephews, Kyler Townsend, Elizabethton, and Isaac Fletcher and Jacob Fletcher, both of Jonesborough. Several aunts, uncles and cousins also survive.
The funeral service for Mr. Dugger will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, February 15, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Rev. Dennis Wilson officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 1 until 2 p.m. Friday, prior to the service. The graveside service will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Military Honors will be accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard. Active pallbearers will be Adam Miller, Chad Miller, Rick Burleson, Jackie Cable, Scott Fletcher and John Burleson. Honorary pallbearers will be the doctors and staff at the James H. Quillen Veterans Administration Hospital, Mountain Home, Tenn. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301.
