Beatrice Gouge, 87, of Elizabethton, passed away on Sunday, August 25, 2013, at Ivy Hall Nursing Home following a brief illness.
She was a native of the Roan Mountain Community of Carter County and a daughter of the late Jacob and Augusta Brown Birchfield. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Mary B. Guinn, and brothers, Roy, David Lee, Arvil, Jimmy Dean, Clyde and Robert Ardin Birchfield.
Ms. Gouge worked for 38 years at North American Rayon Corporation. She had been employed at Great Lakes Carbon Corporation in the Engineering Department and had worked at the Carter County Courthouse in the Circuit Court Clerk’s office.
Ms. Gouge was a long standing member of the Elizabethton Business and Professional Women’s Club, was a member of the Pink Ladies and was the Adult Leader of the Candy Stripers. She was also an active member of “Friends of the Library” at the Elizabethton Public Library. She attended Hunter United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Linda Fay Gouge, Lenoir City, Tenn., and special friends, Kurt Walfgang Meerheim and Robert Campbell, both of Elizabethton.
A private memorial service for Ms. Gouge will be conducted at a later date. Donations in honor of Ms. Gouge can be sent to the Elizabethton Public Library, “Friends of the Library,” 201 N.
