Billy Wayne Scott, 78, of Johnson City, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, September 29, 2013, at Johnson City Medical Center.
He was a son of the late George W. and Georgia Floyd Scott and was born in Gurdon, AK. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Frieda Schulz Scott; four brothers, Albert Scott, Cecil Scott, Sam Scott and William Scott; and one sister, Naomi Hardin.
Mr. Scott retired as a Sergeant Major in the United States Army after 31 years of service. He served two tours in Vietnam. He was part owner of Business Communications Sales and Service and was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose #1831 in Johnson City where he served as treasurer for two years and as governor for two years.
Mr. Scott is survived by one daughter, Ellen Turner and her husband, James, Johnson City; one granddaughter, Brooklyn Turner, Johnson City; one brother, Carl Scott and his wife, Jean, Benton, AK; six sisters-in-law, Virginia Scott, Barbara Scott, Inge Deuber, Cecilia Schroeder, Erika Schulz and Hermine Schulz and her husband, Otto, all of Germany; several nieces and nephews including two special nephews, Mike Scott and his wife, Vicki, Shope, AK, and Thomas Schroeder of Germany.
The funeral service for Mr. Scott will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, October 4, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. Friday, prior to the funeral service in the chapel, or at the residence at other times. The graveside service and interment will follow the funeral service at Lakeview Cemetery in Butler. Military Honors will be accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Smiley, Greg Hawkins, Greg Bentley, Al Sturgeon, Joe Scott and Jimmie Turner.
