Bonnie G. Wilson


Mrs. Bonnie Gardner Wilson, 96, of Elizabethton, Tenn., passed away Tuesday, January 15, 2013, at Ivy Hall Nursing Home following a brief illness.
A native of Yancey County, N.C., she moved to Elizabethton in 1972 and was the daughter of the late John and Minnie Woody Gardner.
Mrs. Wilson was a wonderful mother and grandmother and was a peacekeeper. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Elizabethton and attended Valley Forge Freewill Baptist Church.
Mrs. Wilson was a devoted Christian who put God first above everything.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Lee Wilson; a son, Billy Joe Wilson; two sisters, Zora McKinney and Jewell Hicks; and two brothers, G.B. Gardner and Ernest Gardner.
Survivors include two daughters, Georgia Wright, Cooperville, Wash., and Naomi Causby, Elizabethton; a son, Herbert “Jay” Wilson, Elizabethton; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Rettia Morgan of Colorado. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service for Mrs. Wilson will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, January 18, in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral and Cremation Services with Pastor Randy Johnson and Pastor Mark Potter officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10 until 11 a.m. Friday, prior to the funeral service, or at the residence of her daughter, Naomi Causby, at other times. The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday, January 18, at McDowell Memorial Park, Marion, N.C. Active pallbearers will be Judy Jones, Kelly Wilson, Victor Causby, Jeff Causby, Scott Causby and Triston Causby. Honorary pallbearers will be all of her great-grandchildren. Everyone will meet at the cemetery for the graveside service. The family would like to express a special thanks to the staffs of Ivy Hall Nursing Home and Caris Hospice for their care to Mrs. Wilson. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to the Youth Program, Valley Forge Freewill Baptist Church, 1503 Riverview Drive, Elizabethton, TN 37643.
