Bruce Curde


Bruce Curde, 80, Elizabethton, passed away Tuesday, January 8, 2013, at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center following an extended illness.
A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Samuel H. and Blanche Feathers Curde.
Bruce served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was retired from the Grocery Business, having been an owner, Manager and Assistant Manager. He was a member of Brick Christian Church but in later years had been attending First Christian Church of Elizabethton.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Tom, Ronnie Gene and Ed Curde.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Shirley Bowers Curde; two daughters and sons-in-law, Leslie Anne and Randy Brockley, Tonball, Texas, and Cindy Lee and Robert Brown, Bluff City; three grandchildren, Rachelle Ott, Matthew Curdess Ott and wife Brittany and Jason Lee Peters and wife Erin; four great-grandchildren, Jordan Seljouki, Madison Ott, Kaleb Curdess Ott and Natalie Sophia Peters; and two sisters, Dorothy McLain, Elizabethton, and Sonja Smalling and husband Doug, Watauga. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
A memorial service for Mr. Curde will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 12, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Mr. Brent Nidiffer and Mr. Jeff Campbell, ministers, officiating. Grandchildren, Jason Peters and Rachelle Ott, will give a eulogy. Music will be provided by Gene Estep and Betty Moore Williams. Honorary pallbearers will be Ron Trivette, Jimmy Tester, Lee Birchfield, Charlie Hammitt, Jeff Case, Robert Brown, Randy Brockley, Rusty Curde, Randy Curde and Doug Smalling. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to the entire staff of the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center for the excellent care that was received. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in memory of Mr. Curde to the First Christian Church, 513 Hattie Avenue, Elizabethton, TN 37643. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. Saturday, prior to the funeral service. Friends may also visit the family anytime at the residence.
