Bruce M. “Butch” Potter, 67, formerly of Elizabethton, stepped into heaven Sunrise Easter morning, March 31, 2013, with his two nieces and grand-nephew by his side. Anita Hicks Perry, Nancy Hicks Brown and Joshua Pierce tearfully watched as Uncle Butch made his way home.
It was Butch’s choice to spend his remaining days in the home of his sister and brother-in-law, Leonard and Ruby Potter Hicks, Elizabethton.
Butch is the son of the late Linda Julian Potter and Maynard D. Potter of Roan Mountain. Butch was born in Roan Mountain, while spending his adult life in Elizabethton and living his remaining years in the beautiful mountains of North Carolina that he loved.
He was preceded in death by his only son, Butch “Tracy” Potter; his sister, Edna Jean Potter Hicks; a nephew, Jerry Danny Hicks; and a grand-niece, Judy Amanda Perry.
He is survived by a grandson, Jake; a sister, Ruby Potter Hicks; a granddaughter, Adreanna Cole Potter; four nieces and nephews, Gary M. Hicks, Anita Hicks Perry, Rita Hicks Pierce and Nancy (Jacky) Hicks Brown. His special friends are Doug and Joanne Taylor, Bud Davis, Matthew Morgan and Joe Sumling.
It was Butch’s wishes to be cremated and to be remembered as he was before he was sick. In lieu of flowers or donations, you are asked to take your family fishing and enjoy being together.
