Clara Joan Clark, 69, Unicoi, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, Feb. 21, 2013, at the Johnson City Medical Center.
She was a Unicoi County native and a daughter of the late Rev. William B. McNabb and Mrs. Pansy Tipton McNabb of Unicoi. Through the years, Mrs. Clark had worked for Sears, was a model for J. C. Penney in the 1960s, was a teacher at Greeneville Christian Academy for several years and had owned and operated beauty shops in Greeneville and Unicoi County.
Mrs. Clark was a Sunday School teacher at Central Baptist Church while living in Greeneville. She had been a member of Marbleton Freewill Baptist Church for 25 years, where she was active in various church ministries including singing in the church choir and the church quartet.
Joan was a loving and dedicated Christian wife, mother and grandmother.
Survivors include her husband of more than 50 years, Harlan Clark; a son, Tony Clark and his wife, Janice of Unicoi; a daughter, Angel Dixon of Greeneville; two brothers, the Rev. Harold McNabb and his wife, Ruth of Unicoi, and Gary McNabb and his wife, Mary Lynn of Unicoi; two sisters, Brenda Barnett of Unicoi, and Deborah Miles and her husband, Terry of Greeneville; grandsons, Brandon and Tyler Dixon, both of Greeneville; and several nieces, nephews,aunts and uncles.
A funeral service for Clara Joan Clark will be held Monday, Feb. 25, 2013, at 7 p.m. in the chapel of Valley Funeral Home. The Rev. Tim Broyles will officiate. Musical selections will be provided by the Rev. Harold McNabb, accompanied by Ruth McNabb on the piano. Visitation will be held Monday from 4 p.m. until service time at Valley Funeral Home. A graveside committal service will be held Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2013, at 10 a.m. at McInturff Cemetery in the Marbleton Community of Unicoi with the Rev. Sam Ferguson officiating. Those who wish to attend the graveside committal service are asked to meet at Valley Funeral Home by 9:30 a.m. to go in procession to the cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Gary McNabb, Stan Widener, Bobby Odom, Willard Leath, John Mosley, Mark Hill and Tyler Dixon. Honorary pallbearers will be Alex Clapa, Richard Tipton, Alan Bagley, Donald Bagley, David Hensley, J. M. Whitson, Greg Leake and Brandon Dixon.
