Charles Delane Stophel, 58, of Elizabethton, passed away Monday, June 17, 2013, at Life Care Center of Elizabethton.
A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Isaac A. and Mable Campbell Stophel.
Mr. Stophel retired from the East Tennessee Chair Company. He was of the Baptist Faith. Through the years, he has helped many children.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters and a brother-in-law and friend, James Brock.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra Smalling Stophel; a daughter and son-in-law, Amanda and Wendell Baize, of the home; a grandson, Levi Edward Delane Baize; a sister, Frances Guerro and husband Jessie, Robertstown, Texas; two brothers, Sydney Bowers and wife Mary, Mobile, Ala., and Millard Bowers and wife Betty June, Elizabethton; several nieces and nephews; a special sister-in-law, Marcella Markland; and a brother-in-law and his wife, Larry and Phyllis Smalling.
A memorial service for Mr. Stophel will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 20, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Brandon Young officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Friends may call at the residence or at the residence of a brother, Millard Bowers. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to the staff of Life Care Center of Elizabethton, especially Rhonda and Amanda, Dr. Wayne and Patricia Gilbert and his special friend, Jewell Nunley.
