Mrs. Cleo Hess, 83, of Watauga, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital in Elizabethton. She was a native of Carter County and was the daughter of the late Lem and Myrtle Hendrix Humphrey. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, William “Bill” Hess; three brothers, Gordon, Thurman and Paul Humphrey; and two sisters, Margie Morgan and Christine Carter.
Mrs. Hess was a retired seamstress and a former employee of Hook’s Restaurant in Elizabethton. She attended New Hope Church of Christ and loved to travel and enjoyed spending time with her family.
Survivors include one son, William Jeffrey Hess and wife Michele of Elizabethton; four sisters, Grace Morrison and husband Howard and Bessie Scott, both of Watauga; Letha Dial and Vada Blevins, both of Elizabethton; and a twin brother, Leo Humphrey of Watauga. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service for Mrs. Hess will be conducted at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 9, 2012, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home in Elizabethton, with Mr. Paul Peer and Mr. Kenny Jefferies, ministers, officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 1 to 3 p.m. prior to the service or at the home of her son, William Hess, 1735 Highway 91, Elizabethton, at any time.
Interment will follow the service at the Morrell Cemetery in Sullivan County. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be all of her friends and neighbors.
