He was a native of Wauchula, Fla., and had lived in Carter County for the last 22 years. He was the son of the late Clyde and Katie Mae Smith Hodge.
Mr. Hodge was a retired mushroom farmer, and loved fishing, hunting and golfing. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Charlotte Ehrhart Hodge, of the home; two daughters, Lori Hodge Markland and husband Kevin of Elizabethton and Chrissy Hodge and special friend Mitchell Rhinehart of Roan Mountain; seven grandchildren, Jeffrey Rhinehart, Punky Rhinehart, Walter Rhinehart, Thomas Rhinehart, all of Roan Mountain, Chris Jacob Markland, Nicholas Markland and Katie Markland, all of Elizabethton; a great-grandson, Brycen Cole Johnson of Roan Mountain; a sister, Betty Davis of Mountain City; a brother, Roy Hodge of Mountain City; several nieces and nephews; and a very special friend, Arnold Hughes of Hampton. Several aunts and uncles also survive.
The funeral service for Mr. Hodge will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday, October 23, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Rev. Dennis Wilson officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, prior to the service, or at his residence at any other time. The graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 24, at Whitehead Cemetery in Hampton. Active pallbearers will be his grandchildren and other family members. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Cloudland football and basketball teams. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. Wednesday to go in procession to the cemetery. Those who prefer, in lieu of flowers, may make donations to the Athletic Department at Cloudland High School, 476 Cloudland Drive, Roan Mountain, TN 37687.
