Clyde M. Harper


Clyde M. Harper, 83, of Elizabethton, went home to be with his Lord, on Monday, September 23, 2013, at Johnson City Medical Center, following a brief illness.
Mr. Harper was the son of the late Jerry Harper and Elva Crosswhite Harper-Miller and was born in Johnson County although he had lived in Carter County since 1966. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Grindstaff Harper, on November, 24, 2009; a son, Alan Harper; three brothers, Clarence, Robert and Howard Harper; and a sister, Edna Proffitt.
Mr. Harper was retired from Baxter-Travenol. He was a very generous man who loved roses, hummingbirds and the outdoors in general. He was a member of Poplar Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Linda Haerr, Elizabethton, and Gloria Ann Nitti and her husband, Paul, Nashville; six grandchildren, Nathan Haerr and his wife, Kylie, Amanda Haerr Garland and her husband, Scotty, Jessica Nitti, Marie Ann Mercado and her husband, PFC David Mecardo, Annie Nitti and Alan Nitti; two great-grandchildren, Patrick Owen Haerr and Evelyn Ann Mercado; and a special friend, Philip Haerr, Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The graveside service for Mr. Harper will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 25, in the Crosswhite Cemetery in Shady Valley, Tenn., with Rev. Eric Wright and Rev. Sherrel Nave officiating. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. to go in procession to the cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Charles Grindstaff, Leslie Grindstaff, Roger Dale Grindstaff, Scotty Garland, Philip Haerr and Nathan Haerr. Honorary pallbearers will be Edwin Taylor, Earl Coup, Joe Eggers, Glen Morrell, Gary Morrell and John Garland. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to the Crosswhite Cemetery, c/o Linda Haerr, 109 Forest Crest Lane, Elizabethton, TN 37643 or to Poplar Grove Baptist Church, 2829 Hwy. 91, Elizabethton, TN 37643.
