D.C. Morton

D.C. Morton, 76, of Roan Mountain, passed away Sunday, December 16, 2012, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital.
A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Will and Essie Murray Morton.
Mr. Morton was retired from the U.S. Forrest Service after 25 years of service. He was a TSI Crew Boss and was over the Parks & Rec Department.
Mr. Morton was a member of the Elizabethton Church of Christ.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, John, Mack and Luther Morton, and a sister, Helen Morton.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Betty Brown Morton; a son and daughter-in-law, Curtis and Sheila Morton, Hampton; two daughters, Penny Clark, Elizabethton, and Donna Eastridge, Mountain City; five grandchildren, Derrick Hughes, Amber Clark, Autumn Williams, Mitchell Morton and Mikki Clark; six great-grandchildren; and two sisters, EllaJay Tolley and Erma Wright, both of Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Mr. Morton will be conducted at 8 p.m. Tuesday, December 18, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Mr. Roby Ellis, minister, and Mr. Derrick Hughes officiating. Graveside services and interment will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, December 19, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 9:20 a.m. Wednesday, will be Junior Tolley, Scott Woodby, Larry Morton, Mike Morton, Ed Morton, Teddy Morton, Jeff Morton and Jackie McMahan. Honorary pallbearer will be Ernie Garland. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to the physicians and staff of Sycamore Shoals Hospital and family and friends. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Friends may also visit with the family at the residence of his son, Curtis Morton, 931 Rittertown Road, Hampton. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 9:20 a.m. Wednesday to go to the cemetery. Condolences to the Morton family may be e-mailed to mfc@chartertn.net.
