Denver Wayne Blevins, 65, of Spartanburg, S.C., formerly of the Tiger Creek Community in Carter County, passed away on Sunday, March 17, 2013, at Regional Hospice House in Spartanburg.
He was born in Carter County and was a son of Gladys Simerly Blevins of Roan Mountain, Tenn., and the late Paul Blevins.
Mr. Blevins was a retired guidance counselor in the school systems of South Carolina. He was a member of Caanah Baptist Church and a 1965 Hampton High School Graduate, before earning a Bachelor’s Degree at ETSU and a Master’s Degree plus additional education at University of South Carolina.
Mr. Blevins enjoyed all forms of sports, especially golf, UT football and the outdoors. He loved to laugh, loved life, loved his family and his dog, Lexy, and his cat, Bobo.
Survivors include his wife, Carole A. Blevins, of the home; a daughter, Mary Elizabeth Blevins, Atlanta, Ga.; a son, Paul Andrew Blevins and Erin, Mt. Pleasant, S.C.; a granddaughter, Addison Blevins, Mt. Pleasant, S.C.; and three brothers, Richard Darrell Blevins and wife Wanda, Johnson City, Tenn., Jerry Douglas Blevins and wife Patricia, Hampton, Tenn., and Danny Carroll Blevins and wife Creola, Roan Mountain, Tenn. Nieces and nephews also survive.
The graveside service for Mr. Blevins will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, March 22, in the Captain Nelson Cemetery, at Ripshin, with Rev. Bill Morgan and Rev. Greg Whitehead officiating. Music will be under the direction of Bro. Tyrone Powell, soloist. Active pallbearers will be Freddie Julian, Dexter Perkins, Wayne Blevins, Bob Blevins, Zane Blevins and Bill Highsmith. Those who wish to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 12:50 p.m. Friday.
