Dorothy Cole


Dorothy Jane Johnson Cole, 99, Johnson City, passed away Monday, December 10, 2012, at Appalachian Christian Village.
A native of Watauga County, N.C., she was a daughter of the late A.C. and Elber Hayes Johnson.
Mrs. Cole had lived most of her life in Elizabethton. She was a retired employee of Bemberg and North American Rayon Corporation after 40 years of service.
Mrs. Cole had served as a Pink Lady at Carter County Memorial Hospital for several years. She was the oldest member of West Side Christian Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, C.C. Cole, and by three brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, K. Jack and Sonja Cole, Elizabethton; two grandsons, Walter Cole of Texas and Douglas Cole of California; a granddaughter, Suzanne Artis; a great-grandson, Troy Artis; her nieces, Faye Hashe and husband Steve, Kingsport, Charlotte Mellroe and husband Paul, Oak Ridge, and Kay Forrester, Morristown; and her special friend, Joe Horton.
Graveside services for Mrs. Cole will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, December 13, at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Mr. Greg Key, minister, officiating. Interment will follow the service. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to Dr. Rachel Monderer, the staff of Appalachian Christian Village and the Lydia Circle of West Side Christian Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in memory of Mrs. Cole to the West Side Christian Church, 1307 West G Street, Elizabethton, TN 37643. Friends may visit at the residence of Jack and Sonja Cole Thursday morning prior to the graveside service. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 1:20 p.m. Thursday to go to the cemetery. Condolences to the Cole family may be e-mailed to
