Elizabeth A. Townsend


Elizabeth A. Townsend, 82, of Elizabethton, Tenn., went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, June 19, 2013, at Pine Ridge Care and Rehabilitation Center, following an extended illness.
Mrs. Townsend was the daughter of the late Robert and Dalace Minton Smith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert E. Smith and Joe Smith.
Mrs. Townsend was born in Johnson County, Tenn., but had lived most of her life in Carter County. She retired as a cook from the Carter County School System and was a member of Hunter First Baptist Church. She loved gardening.
Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Raymond L. Townsend, of the home; two daughters, Sherry Smith of Elizabethton and Cindy Kaylor of Johnson City; three grandchildren, Brad Smith of Georgia, Jason Smith and wife Penny, Elizabethton, and Amber Nave, Johnson City; two great-granddaughters, Madison Smith, Elizabethton, and Anna Smith of Georgia; and a brother, George “Buck” Smith of West Virginia. Several nieces and nephews as well as three special friends, Lowell and Ruby Garrison and Betty Little, also survive.
The funeral service for Mrs. Townsend will be conducted at 7 p.m. Friday, June 21, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Rev. Jamie Ferguson officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, prior to the service, or at the residence at anytime. Music will be under the direction of Dale Williams and Bobby Miller. The graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 22, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Brad Smith, Jason Smith, Lowell Garrison, Chad Browning, Steve Smith and Ray Whitehead. Those wishing to attend the service are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. Saturday to go in procession. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to the Alzheimer’s Association, 207 North Boone Street, Johnson City, TN 37601.
