Esther Lee Bennett


Esther Lee Bennett, 78, of Roan Mountain, went home to be with her Lord on Thursday, April 25, 2013, from the home of her daughter.

She was a native of Carter County and the daughter of the late Thomas J. and Legusta Shell.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband, Max William Bennett; brothers, Vernon Shell, Junior Shell, Carl Shell, and Ray Shell; and sisters, Christine Shell, Celestine Shell Franklin, Gladys Shell Miller, Arlene Shell Smith and Faye Shell Hodge.
Mrs. Bennett was a loving and devoted housewife, mother and grandmother. She was of the Freewill Baptist faith and loved gardening and yard sales.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Katheryn and Calvin Wayne McKinney, Roan Mountain; one son, Danny William Bennett, and his companion, Jennifer Stout, Roan Mountain; one brother, T.J. Shell, Roan Mountain; grandchildren, Laura McKinney, David McKinney, Andrew McKinney, Glenda Bennett, and Harley Bennett; and a great grandson, Jeremiah Barlett.  Several nieces and nephews also survive, along with a faithful, loving companion, her Yorkie Terrier, “Bocephus.”

The graveside service for Mrs. Bennett were conducted at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 27, 2013, in the Perry Cemetery with the Rev. Jim Storie, officiating.  Friends may call at the home of her daughter, Katherine McKinney, 197 Perkins Road, Shell Creek community, at any time. Active pallbearers will be Thomas Franklin, Donnie Smith, H.B. Richardson and her grandsons, Andrew and David McKinney and great grandson, Jeremiah Barlett.  Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 1:50 p.m. on Saturday. |

Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers, may make donations to Carter County Humane Society, P.O. Box 134, Elizabethton, Tennessee 37644.
