Fred C. Addison


Fred Carlton Addison, 74, Johnson City, died Tuesday, April 23, 2013, at Franklin Woods Community Hospital.
A native of Russell County, Va., he was a son of the late Grover Cleveland and Fannie Kate Gibson Addison. He had lived in Johnson City since 1962.
Mr. Addison was a graduate of Sullivan West High School. He retired after 30 years as a salesman for Rainbow Bakery. He also retired from East Tennessee State University College of Medicine. He was a member of Sinking Creek Baptist Church.
Mr. Addison served in the United States Air Force.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Naomi Woods, Sue Addison, Polly Pratt and June Addison, and a brother, Don Addison.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Karen Slagle Addison; a daughter, Susan Brown, San Antonio, Texas; two sons, Rick Addison and wife Coral, Johnson City, and Bradley Addison, New Orleans, La.; two sisters, Neva Johnson, Russell County, Va., and Trudy Ripley, Richmond, Va.; and six grandchildren, Jon, Martha, Josiah and Emma Brown, all of Texas, Rebekah Addison and Ethan Addison, both of Johnson City. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Graveside services for Mr. Addison will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Monday, April 29, in the Mountain Home National Cemetery with the Rev. Keith Weatherly officiating. Interment will follow the service. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be his church family and all of his many friends. To those who prefer, memorials may be made in memory of Mr. Addison to the Wounded Warriors Project, 1120 G Street NW, Suite 700, Washington, DC 20005 or to the benevolence fund, Sinking Creek Baptist Church, 2313 Elizabethton Highway, Johnson City, TN 37601. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 10:45 a.m. Monday to go to the cemetery.
