Gaylord Hyder, 81, of 825 Piney Grove Road, Hampton went home to be with the Lord Thursday, November 21, 2013 at the Select Specialty Hospital, Bristol Regional Medical Center after an extended illness. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Harrison and Celia Cable Hyder.
He was a retired barber from the Veterans Administration, Mountain Home, Johnson City. His hobbies include farming, gardening and spending time in the “The Holler”.
Mr. Hyder attended the Piney Grove Free Will Baptist Church.
He was a very loving husband, father and friend. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers: Cecil, Arlie, Paul and Marvin Hyder and two sisters: Eula Scalf and Geneva (Neva) Barnett and special friend Hillard Casey and his former wife, Flo Hyder.
Survivors include: his wife, Debbie Shipley Hyder; two sons and daughters-in-law, Scott and Sherri Hyder, Elizabethton and Gaylynn and Chris Hyder, Hampton; one daughter, Regina Honeycutt and husband Steve, Jonesville, Virginia; six grandchildren, April Scott and husband Greg, Ashley Collins and husband Randy, Heather Webb and husband Lance, Katie Hyder,Ria Hyder and Harley Blevins; three great grandchildren, Peyton Scott, Hunter Collins and Rachel Collins; two sisters, Collene Hicks and husband Dean, Elizabethton and Joyce Cole and husband William, Hampton as well as several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Sunday at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Jim Holtsclaw and Rev. Ted Lewis officiating.
Graveside Service and Interment will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the Hyder Cemetery with the Rev. Steve Burleson officiating. Music will be provided by Sheridan Sigler and Lindsay Harsh. Active pallbearers will be: Justin Guy, Gareth Gass, Randy Collins, Jerry McNeil, Lance Webb, Dale Hicks, and Hurshell Scalf. Honorary pallbearers will be: Bud Honeycutt, Jack Tolley, Lynn Roller, Dean Hicks, William Cole, Jim Stevens, David Nidiffer and Steve Honeycutt.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residence. The children would like to express a special “Thank You” to Debbie for the excellent care she took of our father and the Bristol Regional Medical Center and the Specialty Select Medical Center.
