Grant B. Sharpe, age 89, of Hampton, Tenn.,went home to be with his Lord, Friday, Feb. 22, 2013, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital.
He was a native of Clifton, NC, but had lived in Carter County for the last 50 years.
He was a son of the late Andrew and Lavenia Reedy Sharpe.
Mr. Sharpe was a member of Little Milligan Baptist Church and a life time member of the Carter County Rescue Squad. He was retired from Sharpe’s Ambulance Service and was co-owner of Shirley’s Restaurant
He also was former owner and operator of Fish Springs Service Station.
Mr. Sharpe was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, having served in the 349th Infantry Regiment – 88th Division and was a Purple Heart recipient.
He enjoyed relaxing at the lake.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Raymond Sharpe, Joseph Sharpe and Paul Sharpe.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Shirley Matheson Sharpe of the home; three sons, Brad Sharpe and his wife, Kathy, Chicago, IL, Forrest Sharpe and wife, Leslie, Butler, and Jeffrey Sharpe and his wife, Angie, Butler; six grandchildren, Brendon Sharpe, Jamie Sharpe, Austin Murray, Kaylyn Sharpe, Catie Hill, and Samuel Swecker; three great-grandchildren; three brothers, Burl Sharpe and Dean Sharpe, both of Rural Hall, NC, and Don Sharpe, King, NC.
Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013, in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with the Rev. Sam Icenhour, the Rev. Nick Bradshaw, the Rev. Ronnie Campbell and the Rev. Gary Edwards officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel on Sunday, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m., prior to the service hour. Friends may also call at the residence at other times.
The graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 25, 2013, in the Lakeview Cemetery, Butler, with the Rev. Gary Edwards officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the Carter County Honor Guard. Active pallbearers will be Mick Matheson, Mike Matheson, John Lewis, Dennis Erwin, Scott Scalf, Todd Montgomery, Allen Matheson, Noel Bostain, Austin Murray, and Howard Sharpe. Honorary pallbearers will be John Matheson, Jim Matheson, Elbert Matherly, Glenn McCloud, Richard Moody, Tom White, Richard Fortney, Russell Picket, Terry Reece, Jack Hilton and Johnny Mills. Those who wish to attend the graveside service are ask to meet at Shirley’s Restaurant at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 25, to go in procession to the cemetery. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to the building fund of Little Milligan Baptist Church, 4223 Hwy 321, Butler, TN 37640.
