Harold D. Huffine


Harold David Huffine, 75, Elizabethton, passed away Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013, in the Nursing Home Wing of the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center.
A native of Washington County, he was a son of the late Glenn Harold and Georgia Buchanan Huffine. Harold was a 1955 graduate of University High School, where he was a member of the Buccaneers basketball team. He served in the United States Navy following the Korean Conflict.
He was a retired truck driver with Pet Dairy for 38 years.
Harold was a member of the Willow Springs Baptist Church. He loved fishing, gardening and watching sports on television.
Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Helen Fritts Huffine; one daughter, Gayla Childress and her husband, Lewis, Jonesborough; two sons, Roger Huffine and wife, Brenda, Jonesborough; and Lynn Huffine, Unicoi; a step daughter, Teresa Smith and husband, Allen, Elizabethton; four grandchildren, six great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter.
He is also survived by one brother, Jerry Lynn Huffine and wife, Shirley, Statesville, North Carolina; and one sister, Betty Ann Martin and husband, Richard, Mooresville, North Carolina.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Doug Hardin and the Rev. Bob Polk officiating. Interment will follow in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Music will be provided by Kyle Smith, soloist. Active pallbearers will be Roger Huffine, Lewis Childress, Allen Smith, Josh Atkinson, Phillip Hartley and Richard Davenport.
The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to the VA Hospice Staff for all the loving care given to Happy Pappy. Military honors will be provided by the American Legion. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home. Friends may also visit with the family at the residence. Condolences may be e-mailed to mfc@chartertn.net.
