Ida H. Edwards


Ida H. Edwards, 99, of Elizabethton, went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, January 1, 2013, at Ivy Hall Nursing Home following an extended illness.
She was born in Johnson County, but had lived in Carter County most of her life. She was the daughter of the late Roy and Emma Willen Hammons. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, J.E. Edwards, on January 29, 1977, and by two sisters and three brothers.
Mrs. Edwards owned and operated Edwards Beauty Shop and School for more than 70 years. She was a member of Memorial Presbyterian Church and loved taking care of her family.
Survivors include her son, Jacob Edwards II, Elizabethton; two sisters, Ruby Potter, Mountain City, and Jewell Booher, Port Deposit, Md.; and two brothers, R.B. Hammons and his wife, Loretta, Port Deposit, Md., and Robert Hammons, Fernwood, Idaho. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A gathering of remembrance service for Mrs. Edwards will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 5, in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with the Rev. Dwight Basham officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 12:30 until 2 p.m. Saturday, prior to the service. An inurnment service will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Memorial Presbyterian Church, friends and neighbors.
