Imogene Campbell Barnett


Imogene Campbell Barnett, 81, 114 Old Charity Hill Road, Elizabethton, went home to be with her Lord, Thursday, November 28, 2013, in the Hillview Rehabilitation Center.

A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late the Rev. Cloe and Rita Kite Campbell. She was a homemaker. In addition to her parents ,she was preceded in death by her husband John Barnett, December 7, 2005; by a son, Johnny Barnett; four brothers, Darrell, Carrell, Joe and Bill Campbell. Mrs. Barnett was an active member of the Keenburg Free Will Baptist Church and the Ladies Auxiliary.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law: Anna Jean (AJ) and Dwayne Calhoun, Elizabethton; two sons and daughters-in-law, Lamont and Brenda Barnett, Elizabethton, and Rusty and Kim Barnett, of the home; a daughter-in-Law, Renee Barnett, Elizabethton; eight grandchildren, Hannah, Mary, Jessica, Brandon and Ashley, Jennifer, Jeremy and Kelly, Marsha, Amy and David; four great-grandchildren, Gage, John Thomas, Brady and Caleb; one sister, Maxine Jones, Kent, Ohio; a sister-in-law, Peggy Campbel; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Peggy Shoun.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Sunday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with Mr. Dwayne Calhoun, minister, and the Rev. Gene Fleenor officiating. Graveside Service and Interment will be at 1 p.m. Monday, December 2, 2013, in the Captain Nelson Cemetery, Roan Mountain. Pallbearers will be grandsons and family friends. Honorary Pallbearers will be her church family, the church family of Hampton Christian Church, members of the Elizabethton Fire Department, members of the Carter County Sheriff Department, members of the Elizabethton Police Department, members of the Carter County Rescue Squad and members of the Carter County Board of Education. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to the staff of Hillview Rehabilitation Center for the excellent care that our mother received. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.


Friends may also visit with the family and her residence. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 12:10 p.m. Monday to go to the cemetery. Condolences may be e-mailed to
