Jack H. Cannon, 89, died on Monday, September 23, 2013, at Hermitage Health Center, Elizabethton.
Mr. Cannon, a son of the late Lessie H. and Florine Smalling Cannon, was a lifelong resident of Carter County. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Rev. K. Charles Cannon.
A World War II Marine Corps veteran, Mr. Cannon made landings with the 4th Marine Division on Saipan, Tinian, Kwajalein and Iwo Jima.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Doris Macauley Cannon; sister, Elsie Jean Crowe and husband Bob; son, Dale and wife Joni, Johnson City; son, Blair, Knoxville; son, Wade and wife Jan, Chattanooga; grandchildren, Tara Thomas and husband John, Kyle Cannon and wife Melinda, Brandon Cannon and wife Meg, and Brittany Cannon; and great-grandchildren, Elijah and Elizabeth Thomas, Molly, Jack and Luke Cannon.
The Requiem Mass for Mr. Cannon will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, September 26, in the Chapel of St. John’s Episcopal Church with Father Harry Shaefer officiating. Interment will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Kyle Cannon, Brandon Cannon, John Thomas, Elijah Thomas, Steve Gross, Gary Burleson and John Whitson. There will be a visitation with the family on Thursday, prior to the service, from 12:30 until 2 p.m. at the church. Memorials in Jack Cannon’s name may be made to St. John’s Episcopal Church, 500 N.
