He was a son of the late Lawrence B. Stout and Polly M. Stouch and was born in Limestone, Tenn. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Bob Stout, and a sister, Helen Ann Godsey.
Mr. Stout was a retired U.S, Navy veteran, serving in the Korean Conflict and achieving 23 years of service as Master Chief Petty Officer. He also retired from David Crockett High School, where he served as NJROTC instructor. He was of the Methodist faith.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Charlotte Sue Angel Stout, Elizabethton; two sons, Jimmy L. Stout, Elizabethton, and Donald E. Stout and wife Kathleen, of Maryland; two daughters, Susan D. Shorter and Linda J. Stout-Jenkins, both of Elizabethton; and four grandchildren, Jimi Stout, Atlanta, Ga., Juliana Jenkins, Brad Breeden and Briana Stout, all of Elizabethton. Two nephews and one niece also survive.
The funeral service for Mr. Stout will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday, October 18, in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Rev. Jack Lyons officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 1:30 until 3 p.m. Thursday, prior to the service. Interment will follow the service at Highland Cemetery in Elizabethton. Active pallbearers will be Jimi Stout, Cody Collins, David Sellers, Bob Rainbolt and Dillon Sellers. Honorary pallbearers will be Norman Ingram, Commander Ted Foster, Fred Wandell, Dr. William Kincaid, Master Chief Walter Leedy (U.S. Navy Retired) and Reba Leedy.
