Mrs. Jeanette Maureen (Winters) Allen, age 74, residing in Marietta, Ga., passed away with her family present on Tuesday, March 19, 2013.
Jeanette was born March 18, 1939, in Shell Creek, Tenn., and has lived in Marietta for the last 32 years.
She is survived by Marvin Ray Allen, her husband of 45 years. Her surviving children are Gary Vines, of Elizabethton; a son and daughter in-law, Marvin and Christen Allen of Lawrenceville Ga.; a daughter and son in-law, Kim and Don Hicks of Freeland Mich.; and 10 grandchildren. Other survivors include her brothers, Charles and Grayson Winters of Elizabethton; her sister, Brenda (Winters) Taylor of Simpsonville, S.C.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents Paul and Mildred Winters of Hampton; a son, Larry Vines of Elizabethton; and a brother, Richard (Dick) Winters of Elizabethton.
Jeanette lived in Elizabethton during her early years, and was employed at East Tennessee Undergarment.
Throughout her life, Jeanette worked as a restaurant manager and a homemaker.
Her family and friends remember her as happy, funny, quick and witty.
She would often take young people needing a little help into her home providing them with shelter, food and comfort. She loved children, gardening, reading, and cooking.
She was a wonderful wife, sister, aunt, mother, grandmother, and friend to many and will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Arthritis National Research Foundation.
A private ceremony with dear friends and family will be held at 4 p.m., Sunday, March 24, 2013, at Mayes Ward Dobbins Funeral Home, Marietta, Ga. (www.mayeswarddobbins.com).
The family will receive close friends and family between 3 and 4 p.m. at the same location.
Internment of her cremated remains will be at Georgia National Cemetery at a future date.
