Mrs. Jessie Minnie Roark, 84, of Elizabethton, passed away on Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at Sycamore Shoals Hospital.
She was the daughter of the late Martin and Francis Minnie Bowling Venable and was born in Galax, Va. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Roark, and four brothers, Martin, Samuel, Robert and David Venable.
Mrs. Roark was a member of Doe River Baptist Church where she was active in her Sunday School Class. She also participated on several social committees within the church.
Survivors include four daughters, Fonda Garland and her husband, Tony, Jonesborough, Donna Jones, Elizabethton, Teresa Holdren and her husband, Jim, Elizabethton, and Lanay Laws and her husband, Mark, Roan Mountain; two sons; Norman Roark and his wife, Glenda, Elk Park, N.C., and Johnny Roark, Johnson City; eight grandchildren, Norma Kay Bodine, Daniel Shane Davis, Denny Ray Garrison, Steven Roark, April Morgan, Travis Roark, David Seth Davis and Logan Mark Laws; 12 great-grandchildren, Autumn Deseree Gergisha, Brianna Ceely, Shauna Ceely, Johnathan Morgan, Brach Austin Davis, Breden Roark, Abby Roark, Alex Morgan, Julia Roark, Luke Roark, Tayven Brie Davis and Carrie Fleenor; and one great-great-grandchild, Rhemi Leech.
The funeral service for Mrs. Roark will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday, August 15, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Rev. Jim Hawk officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, prior to the service. The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, August 16, in the Johnson-Roanview Cemetery.
