Joseph Miller Black Jr., 82, of Elizabethton, passed away on Wednesday, November 14, 2012, at Hillview Nursing Home after a long illness.
A native of Anderson, S.C., he was the son of the late Joseph M. Black Sr. and Evelyn Masters Black.
Survivors include his spouse, Julia Dozier Black; five sons, Joseph “Joe” M. Black III and wife, Vicki, Georgia, James “Bill” W. Black, California, Robert M. Black “Bob” and wife, Kathy, South Carolina, David “Dave” D. Black and wife, Rhonda, Tennessee, Charles “Charlie” E. Black and wife, Marlous, South Carolina; two daughters, Edie B. Hartman and husband, Frank, Tennessee, Julia “Judy” B. Wilson and husband, Paul, Georgia; eight grandchildren, Chris Black, Katie Robinson, Joshua Black, Joseph M. Black IV, Jonathan Black, Whitney Wilson, Deborah Black and Jessica Wilson; one great-grandson, Sullivan Robinson; and cousin, Pete Masters, Anderson, South Carolina.
Mr. Black graduated Clemson University, class of 1950. Service in the U.S. Army, Korea, Commissioned Officer. Captain. Employed as a Textile Engineer Manager at Beaunit Corp., Elizabethton, Tenn., and he served on the Elizabethton City Council.
Mr. Black had a lifelong love for tennis and football, and was an avid Elizabethton Cyclones fan and Clemson Tiger supporter.
He attended Memorial Presbyterian Church, Elizabethton, Tenn.

Memorial services will be held Sunday, Nov. 18, from 2 until 3:30 p.m. EST at Memorial Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall (right side), 100 East F Street, Elizabethton, TN 37643 with Minister Dwight Basham officiating. Interment will follow at Silverbrook Cemetery, Anderson, S.C., at a future date.
