Josephine “Josie” T. Spoone Coleman, 93, of Elizabethton, formerly of Roan Mountain, passed from her sickness to live with the Lord on Wednesday, September 19, 2012, at the Ivy Hall Nursing Home.
A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of the late Mack and Huldia Green Tipton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Fred Spoone, and her second husband, Cecil Coleman; two infant siblings; two sisters, Lucy T. Birchfield and Locky Jane (Ted) Richardson; and four brothers, Lon Tipton, Warren Tipton Sr., Blaine Tipton and Roy “Pete” Tipton.
Mrs. Coleman was a precious mother, sister, aunt and friend. She loved her family and friends, going to church, cooking, flowers, and riding around enjoying God’s beautiful creation.
Mrs. Coleman attended Fork Mountain Baptist Church.
Survivors include her son, Ernest Dean Spoone, Johnson City; one sister, Bertha T. Boone White, Hampton; one brother, Robert Tipton, Cleveland, Ohio; seven step-children, Sandra Hoilman and her husband, Dennis, Elizabethton, Kathy “Sue” Stancill and her husband, Kenny, Townsend, Mont., Joann Coleman, Newport, Tenn., Lee Coleman and his wife, Theresa, Kim Coleman and his wife, Christine, David Coleman and his wife, Kristen, and Karen Monsier and her husband, James, all of Greeneville, Tenn.; several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Hattie Clark, Elizabethton, and Virginia Lloyd, Yorkstown, Va.; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. Two special friends, Goldie Jones and Dorothy Williams, also survive.
The funeral service for Mrs. Coleman will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday, September 22, in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral and Cremation Services with Rev. Delaney Berry officiating. Music will be under the direction of Jennifer Fleenor Sizemore. The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, prior to the service in the chapel. The graveside service and interment will follow the funeral service in the Lyons Cemetery, Dry Creek Road. Active pallbearers will be Lee Coleman, Warren Tipton Jr., Gary Tipton, Mark Tipton, Jerry Tipton and Tony Sizemore. The family would like to extend a special thank-you to Joy Powers and the staff of Roan Highlands Nursing Home, Dr. Jerry Gastineau, Judy Deloach and the staff of Ivy Hall Nursing Home, Dr. Jonathan Bremer and Caris Hospice who provided Josephine with loving care.
