Landon Walter Campbell, age 61, Roan Mountain died Sunday, Oct. 20, 2013, as the result of a boating accident at Watauga Lake in Carter County.
He was preceded in death by both parents, Oasey and Novella Johnson Campbell, and a younger sister, Angela “Annie” Campbell.
Landon served in the U.S. Navy from 1970 to 1975, and was proud of his military service.
As a father, husband, brother and friend, Landon was committed to giving his loved ones the best of himself. He spent as much time as possible fishing and working outdoors, and he died doing what he loved.
He was a storyteller and a conversationalist, to say the least. He made friends as easily as breathing and was always eager to help friend and stranger alike.
We loved him in life and know that he wanted us to remember his smile, laughter and love for us, and we will do so until we meet him again at God’s door.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Winters Campbell ; a son and daughter-in-law, Joshua and Jackie Campbell; a daughter and son-in-law, Nyle and Nicole Campbell Barnett; four grandsons, Gage Barnett, Deven Campbell, Kayden Campbell, Jude Campbell, and a granddaughter, Stevie Lane Barnett; a brother and sister-in-law, Douglas “Doc” Campbell and Leta Campbell; a sister and brother-in-law; Roger and Iris Ann Campbell Miller, and a half-brother and sister-in-law, Virgil and Ann Campbell. Several nieces and nephews and their children as well as extended family also survive.
It was Landon’s wish was to be cremated. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Oct. 26 at 2 p.m. at Roan Mountain First Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service.
