Mary F. Childers


Mrs. Mary Frances Childers, 79, of Elizabethton, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 25, 2012, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital due to complications from pneumonia.
She was a native of Carter County and the daughter of the late Vernon and Amanda Bible Glass. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Lucille, Evelyn and Nancy, and two brothers, Albert and Bill.
Mrs. Childers was a homemaker and a graduate of Elizabethton High School. She was a member of Fairview Baptist Church, where she served as a Sunday school teacher and a youth leader. She loved painting and doing crafts, was an avid reader and enjoyed making cards. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and taking care of her husband.
Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Jim Childers, of the home; two sons, Michael Childers and wife Jewel, Atlanta, Ga., and Douglas Childers and wife Carol, Elizabethton, Tenn.; one daughter, Kelly Wagner and husband Sam, Maryville, Tenn.; eight grandchildren, Josh, Amber and Matthew Childers, Jessica and Nolan Childers, Sam Jr. and Rebekah and Rachel Wagner; one great-grandson, Cash Michael Childers; and one sister, Jane Isaacs and husband Claude, Elizabethton, Tenn. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service for Mrs. Childers will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday, December 27, in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Dr. Kenneth Jordan and Rev. Ron Owens officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, prior to the service, or at the residence at anytime. The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, December 28, in the Mountain Home National Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be her grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers will be Wayne Peeks, Harold Smith, Donald George Ross, Dennis Vaughn and members of Fairview Baptist Church and Grace Baptist Church. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at Tetrick Funeral Home in Elizabethton at 9 a.m. Friday to go in procession to the cemetery. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to the Fairview Baptist Church Building Fund, 585 Watauga Road, Watauga, TN 37694.
