Jesus called and Mike answered, June 13, 2013, at the Sycamore Shoals Hospital after a lengthy battle with leukemia. Michael Chandler, 66, was native of Erwin and had lived in Hampton for several years. He was a son of the late Hubert and Eva Hampton Chandler. Mike retired from ITT. He loved people, gardening and fishing.
Survivors include his best friend and companion of 10 years Bertie Hodge, of the home; stepson, Ralph Wayne Whitehead, whom he loved as a son; his former wife and friend Jane Smith; his special friends, Mike Erwin and wife, Bonnie; Vestal Bennette, whom he loved as a brother; Vivian and Tony Guy, Darlene Wilson; Benny Tolley; Charles Banner; Violet Cordell; Jerry Tipton; and his canine family, Tasha and Susie.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 16, 2013, in the Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Gary Whitehead officiating. Graveside service and internment will follow at the Woodby Family Cemetery. Music will be provided by the Rev. Gary Whitehead. Pallbearers will be Jerry Tipton, Jesse Combs, Tony Guy, Anthony Cordell, Ralph Whitehead and R.J. Hyatt.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. on Sunday. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Funeral Home to help defray funeral expenses. Condolences may be e-mailed to email@example.com.
