MORGANTON, N.C. — Peggy Henson Benton Nichols, 60, of Morganton, formerly of Roan Mountain, Tenn., passed away Sunday, August 11, 2013, at Burke Palliative Care Center after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born on August 31, 1952, she was the daughter of Lois Elizabeth Stockton Browning of Morganton and the late Henry Ford Henson.
Peggy was raised in the Baptist Faith and loved animals and children. She helped her son at 181 Convenience Store and served as a caregiver to her mother.
In addition to her father, Peggy was preceded in death by a brother, John David Henson, and her nephew, Jody Henson.
Peggy is survived by her son, Shane Benton and his wife, Joy, of Morganton, and their children, Jocelyn Benton and Jacob Coffey; a daughter, Christy McGee and her husband, Barry, of Morganton, their children, Noah McGee and Derik McGee and his fiancée, Ashley, and Christy’s granddaughter, Rory McGee; a brother, Lester Henson and his wife, Sandi, of Roan Mountain, Tenn.; a niece, Sara Barnett; great-nieces and great-nephews, Emma, Mason, Cain and Dawson; and close friends, Nicole Nelson and Alley Ward.
A celebration of Peggy’s life will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, August 15, at Faith Free Will Baptist Church with the Rev. Rocky Reese and the Rev. John L. Stockton officiating.
