Phillip Ray Jenkins, 68, OF Elizabethton, died Thursday, April 11, 2013, at Johnson City Medical Center.
A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Clyde Bailey Jenkins Sr. and Mable Carter Jenkins.
Phillip was a 1962 graduate of Elizabethton High School. He served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam Era. He also served in the Tennessee National Guard.
Phillip was retired as an Industrial Mechanic at Kennametal. He was a member of Biltmore Baptist Church.
Phillip was an exceptional father and grandfather, who delighted in his family.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Heather and Andy Anderson, Elizabethton; his grandson, Samuel Anderson; the mother of his daughter and lifelong friend, Helen Jenkins; his brothers, Clyde Jenkins Jr. and wife Nell, Lester Jenkins and wife Judy and Don Jenkins and wife Patti; his sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Lynn Montgomery, and Dean Chambers, who loved him like a son, and many more family and friends who will miss him dearly.
Graveside services for Mr. Jenkins will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday, April 15, in the Mountain Home National Cemetery with the Rev. Mark Fowler officiating. Interment will follow the service. Music will be provided by Vaughn Campbell Jr. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 9:15 a.m. Monday, will be Jeff Montgomery, Mike Peters, Kevin Darnell, Nathan Darnell, Jason Chambers and Daniel Chambers. Honorary pallbearers will be Lynn Montgomery, Harold Chambers, Donnie Chambers, John Bailey and all his many friends. The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Friends may also visit with the family at the residence of his daughter and son-in-law, Heather and Andy Anderson, 313 West H Street, Elizabethton. Military Honors will be provided by the American Legion and the Tennessee National Guard. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 9:15 a.m. Monday to go to the cemetery.
