Reno V. Whisenhunt

Reno V. Whisenhunt, 82, Ivy Hall Nursing Home, formerly of Roan Mountain, passed away on Sunday, October 6, 2013, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital following an extended illness.
He was a son of the late Isaac and Lillie Royal Whisenhunt and was born in Carter County. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nella Ann Birchfield Whisenhunt, on July 16, 2005; a son, Gregory Scott Whisenhunt; four brothers, William Whisenhunt, David Whisenhunt, Nova Whisenhunt and Harry Whisenhunt; and two sisters, Millie Tester and Minnie Arrowood.
Mr. Whisenhunt retired from East Tennessee Undergarment Company as a supervisor in the shipping department. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Roan Mountain Church of Christ where he led singing.
Mr. Whisenhunt is survived by a daughter, Carmella Joy Fields and her husband, Freddie, and a son, Vernon Whisenhunt and his wife, Pam, all of Roan Mountain; four grandchildren, Amber Hollie Whisenhunt Fleming and her husband, Jordan, Nashville, Phillip Daniel Whisenhunt, Piney Flats, Michael Austin Fields and his wife, Heather, Elk Park, N.C., and John Gregory Fields, Roan Mountain; two great-grandchildren, William Austin Fields and Mitchell Austin Fields, both of Elk Park, N.C.; a brother, Carmen Whisenhunt, Hampton; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Clay and Pat Montgomery, Roan Mountain.
The funeral service for Mr. Whisenhunt was conducted at 7 p.m. Monday, October 7, in the Rhododendron Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Roan Mountain, with Mr. Mark Cartier, minister, officiating. Music was provided by the singers of Roan Mountain Church of Christ. The family received friends in the funeral home chapel from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, prior to the service. The graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday, October 8, at Johnson-Roan View Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be Mr. Whisenhunt’s friends, neighbors and the men of Roan Mountain Church of Christ. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday to go in procession.
