Roxie L. Buckles, age 79, of Elizabethton went home to be with her Lord on Friday, May 17, 2013 at Pine Ridge Care Center, Elizabethton, following an extended illness. A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Joe and Stella Pierce Wilson. She was a member of Blue Springs Christian Church. She enjoyed growing flowers. She was a former employee of Betty’s Burger Hut. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Horace Buckles and several brothers and sisters.
Survivors include a son, James Buckles and his wife, Wanda, of Elizabethton, two grandsons, Jason Buckles and his wife, Lucinda and Justin Buckles and his wife, Megan, all of Elizabethton, one great granddaughter, Leila Buckles, Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews including a special niece, Roxie (Tuti) Hill, Elizabethton, also survive.
The funeral service for Mrs. Buckles will be conducted at 7 p.m., Monday, May 20, 2013 in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Mr. Richard Thomason, minister, officiating. Music will be under the direction of Jill Kemp. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel on Monday, from 5-7 p.m. prior to the service hour.
The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 2 p.m., Tuesday May 21, 2013 in the Pearl Bowers Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Jason Buckles, Justin Buckles, Roger Brown, Catlin Hill, Churchhill Hill and Gary Kemp. Those who wish to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home chapel on Tuesday, at 1:15 p.m. to go in procession to the cemetery. The family will like to extend a special thank you to the doctors and staff of Pine Ridge Care Center for all the love and care extended Roxie during her illness.
