Ruby Jean Carnett


Ruby Jean Carnett, 81, of Hampton, passed away on Sunday, August 18, 2013, at Roan Highlands Nursing Center.
She was a native of Carter County and a daughter of the late Brownlow and Arthene Shell Holtsclaw. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Carnett; a son, Tony Carnett; a sister, Ethel Faye Largent; a brother, Brownlow Leroy Holtsclaw; and a granddaughter, Shawnee Cornett.
Mrs. Carnett had worked at North American Rayon Corporation and the Carter County School System. She was a member of Little Mountain Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, Lester Carnett and wife Marylou, Roan Mountain; three grandchildren, Dale Carnett and wife Carla, Brandon Carnett and Mark Arnett, all of Roan Mountain; three great-grandchildren, Mason Carnett, Josie Carnett and Michael Arnett; a sister, Geraldine Edwards, Hampton; two brothers, Tracy Holtsclaw and Murriel Holtsclaw and wife Ellen, all of Roan Mountain; a special friend, Carl Carden, Abingdon, Va.; a special daughter-in-law, Johnnie Carnett Boone, Roan Mountain; and special nieces, Tonja Johnson and Candy Harrald. Several other nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service for Mrs. Carnett will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, August 20, in the Rhododendron Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Roan Mountain, with Rev. Charlie Trivette officiating. Music will be under the direction of Rick Holtsclaw and Candy Harrald. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from noon until 2 p.m. Tuesday, prior to the service, or at the residence of her sister, Geraldine Edwards, 200 Falls Road, Hampton, at anytime. The graveside service will follow in the Holtsclaw Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The family would like to extend a special thank you to nurses, Mark and Jen, from the 5200 wing at Johnson City Medical Center and the nurses and CNAs at Roan Highlands Nursing Center for all the love and care shown to Mrs. Carnett during her illness.
