Spencer Fred Griffey

Spencer Fred Griffey, 81, of Butler, passed away Saturday, November 30, 2013, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital.
A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late David and Ona Smith Griffey.
Mr. Griffey retired after more than 40 years of service at North American Rayon Corporation. He was a member and Deacon of Little Milligan Baptist Church. His hobby was going on wagon train trips.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Birtie Campbell Griffey, who died November 13, 2010; a brother, Otis Ray Griffey Sr.; and a sister, Eula Mae Grindstaff.
Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Griffey and Phyllis McQueen and her husband Rhonda, all of Butler; three sons and daughters-in-law, David and Sharon Griffey and Jimmy and Carolyn Griffey, all of Butler, and Billy and Tammy Griffey, Mt. Carmel, Tenn.; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and his special friends, Maxine Woody and Joyce and Joe Walsh.
Funeral services for Mr. Griffey will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday, December 3, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Cecil “Nick” Bradshaw and the Rev. Sammy Icenhour officiating. Music will be provided by the Rev. Ronnie Campbell. The graveside service and interment will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 4, in the Nat Campbell Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Friends may also visit with the family at his residence. Active pallbearers will be Ronnie McQueen, Tim Campbell, Pete Holtzclaw, Bearl Campbell, Otis Griffey and J.R. Campbell. Honorary pallbearers will be his church family, friends of Little Milligan and Fish Springs communities and his wagon train buddies. Family and friends will assemble at the cemetery at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. Condolences to the Griffey family may be e-mailed to mfc@chartertn.net.
