Thelma I. Shankle, 81, of Elizabethton, Tenn., passed away on Friday, Jan. 11, 2013 at Sycamore Shoals Hospital.
She was a native of Carter County and a daughter of the late Mike and Goldie Lewis Williams. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Shankle Sr; daughter, Sue Shankle; son, William Shankle Jr.; sister, Ethel Greenwell; and brother, Charles Williams.
Mrs. Shankle was a cook at Hook’s restaurant for many years. She was a member of the Jehovah’s Witnesses of Elizabethton.
Survivors include a daughter, Carol Harmon of Elizabethton; grandchildren, Chris Shankle and fiancé Stephanie Matthews, Debra Chandler and fiancé Joe White, Tracy Roberts, Heather Stout and husband Billy all of Elizabethton, Shawn Shankle, Charlie Shankle both of Florida, Michelle Hendrix and Rebecca Smith both of Alabama; several great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; brothers, Michael Williams, Clinton Williams and Joe Williams; and a very special friend, Pauline Harper. She also leaves behind her special cats, Big Boy and Sissy.
The funeral service for Mrs. Shankle will be conducted at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton. The family will receive friends from 2 p.m.–3 p.m. in the funeral home chapel prior to the service.
The graveside service will follow in Wilson Cemetery. Pallbearers will be members of the Elizabethton congregation.
