Thelma Little Davis entered into eternal life on Thursday, February 28, 2013, following a brief illness. Born June 2, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Edgar C. and Lillie Holden Little and the devoted wife of the late Sherrill C. Davis, who passed away on November 24, 2001.
Mrs. Davis, affectionately known as “Gigi” to her nieces and nephews, devoted her life to displaying her love of God and family. She took great pride in assisting her husband with their cattle farm in Stoney Creek and loved preparing meals for her family, often hosting large family gatherings for holidays. She enjoyed growing her own vegetables and spent much time canning and preserving; her nieces are grateful for the many lessons she provided in cooking and the art of food preservation.
A longtime member of Grace Baptist Church, Mrs. Davis taught an adult Sunday School class and was faithful and active in church activities while her health permitted. She remained devoted to her church after her physical abilities began to decline, and dearly loved visits from church members, especially the friendships and contact of Pat and Jim Dolgner, Betty and Richard Grindstaff, and Theil and Janice McCracken. A lifelong friend and fellow church member, Elwanda Reeser, brought many happy hours of phone conversation to her; Violet Trivett and Renee Priest were also cherished friends. She was an employee of American Bemberg for many years prior to the plant’s closing.
In the last year and a half of her life, Mrs. Davis made her home with her nephew Tom and wife Lynn Little. She filled her days with helping out in the kitchen and loved to make specials treats for family members who came to visit. She adored visits from her nine great-great-nieces and nephews and took great pleasure in holding and playing with them.
Mrs. Davis was also preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law, James “Bob” and Rema Little, and a brother, T.J. Little Sr. She is survived by a sister-in-law, Sue Little, and by four nieces and nephews, Tom (and Lynn) Little, T.J. Little Jr., Linda (and Rick) Baughman, and Jeff (and Suzie) Little. She is also survived by five great-nephews and nieces, Michael Little and wife Amanda, who was her much-loved caretaker in later years, David Little and wife Erica, Joseph Little, Rachel Little Hyder and husband Steve, Alex Baughman and Bennett Little.
The funeral service for Mrs. Davis will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 2, in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Rev. Ron Owens officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home chapel, prior to the service, or at the home of a nephew, Tom Little, at anytime. Music will be under the direction of Trilla Little. The graveside service will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Michael Little, David Little, Joseph Little, Steve Hyder, Wesley Baughman, Alex Baughman and Bennett Little. Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons and members of Grace Baptist Church, friends and neighbors, and Thomas James “T.J.” Little.
