Thomas Wade Watson, 84, of Mountain City, Tenn., passed away on Tuesday, September 24, 2013, at Mountain City Care Center.
He was born on March 15, 1929 to the late Otto Lattie Watson and Mary Nichols Watson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Kimberly Watson; a brother, Ronald Watson; and sisters, Wilma Pope and Iris McCann.
Thomas was a United States Army Air Corps and Air Force Veteran and honorably served during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Bible Baptist Church of Elizabethton.
Thomas is survived by his wife of 49 years, Shirley Jenkins Watson; daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Wally Butler of Ontario, Ore., and Margaret and Randall Medley of Mountain City, Tenn.; grandchildren, Buddy Payne and Tommy Payne; grandchildren who were very close to Thomas, Mikayla and Seth Medley; nine great-grandchildren; sisters, Cleota McQueen of Shady Valley, Tenn., Gertrude Gilley of Mountain City, Tenn., and Cordella Rugg of Abingdon, Va.; brother, Howard Watson of Shady Valley, Tenn.; special friend, Sarah Johnson; Thomas’ loving dog, Molly; and many more special friends.
Funeral services for Mr. Watson will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, September 27, at Mountain City Funeral Home with Pastor Leonard Fletcher and Brother Frank Osborne officiating. Graveside services and interment with Military Honors conducted by the Johnson County Honor Guard will follow in the Blevins Cemetery of Shady Valley, Tenn. Pallbearers will be David Watson, Nathan Watson, Randall Medley, Michael Watson, Cody Watson and Jerry Bullard. Honorary pallbearers are John Payne, Howard Watson and Reford McQueen. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, September 26, at Mountain City Funeral Home. At other times, the family will receive friends at the home of Thomas’ daughter, Margaret Medley, 450 Old Butler Road, Mountain City, Tenn.
