William “Billy” Forbes

William “Billy” Forbes, 80, of Elizabethton, went home to be with his Heavenly Father, Saturday, October 26, 2013, at Johnson City Medical Center surrounded by his devoted family.
A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late William Milburn Forbes Sr. and Florence Anna Oxendine Forbes.
Billy retired from Inland Container after 37 years of service. He was an avid fisherman and spent many hours devoted to Christian Mission Works. He attended the House of Prayer and took an active part in Bible Study and Sunday School.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jack M. Forbes, and a brother-in-law, George Blankenship Sr.
Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Dorothy “Dot” Guinn Forbes; a son, Teddy Forbes, Concord, N.C.; a daughter, Nancy Monreal and her husband, Larry Campbell (his fishing buddy), Jonesborough; a granddaughter, Angelica Monreal; a great-granddaughter, Christina Monreal, San Antonio, Texas; two sisters, JoAnn Blankenship, Johnson City, and Edith Delp and her husband Ray, Panama City Beach, Fla.; three brothers, Roy Forbes, Elizabethton, Wesley Forbes, Cookeville, Tenn., and Duane Forbes and wife Loretta, Elizabethton; his sister-in-law, Mary Forbes, Elizabethton; one aunt; several uncles; eight nieces and seven nephews.
The funeral service for Mr. Forbes will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday, October 29, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Allen Simerly officiating. Music will be provided by the Lyons Chapel Trio. Entombment will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, October 30, in the Mausoleum of Peace at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 9:20 a.m. Wednesday, will be Wesley Forbes, John Forbes, George Blankenship, Eddie Forbes, Roger Odom and Roby Fritts. Honorary pallbearers will be Sam Harrison, Ronnie Kent, Jonathan Kent, Arvil McKinney, Larry McKinney, Jimmy Anderson, Harry Vines and his church family. To those who prefer, memorials may be made in memory of Mr. Forbes to the donor’s favorite charity. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 9:20 a.m. Wednesday to go to the cemetery. Condolences to the Forbes family may be e-mailed to mfc@chartertn.net.
