Mr. William J. “Bill” Zavasky, Sr., age 92, of Elizabethton, passed away on Friday, August 2, 2013, at Pine Ridge Care Center, following a brief illness. He was a son of the late Florian and Gizella Cisar Zavasky. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Durbin Zavasky in 1988.
Mr. Zavasky was born in Cleveland, Ohio, but had lived in Elizabethton for the last 16 years. He was self-employed and had previously owned and operated a bakery and a gas station. He was a member of the V.F.W. in Florida, liked to repair things and working crossword puzzles, and was a U.S. Coast Guard veteran of World War II.
Survivors include a daughter, Deborah Maggart, Elizabethton; a son, William James Zavasky, Jr. and wife Melissa, St. Petersburg Beach, Fla.; four grandchildren, Cheyenne Maggart, Elizabethton; Genevive Zavasky, William James Zavasky, III, and Margerette Zavasky, all of Florida; and one sister, Irene Carloni, Calif. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The committal and entombment services for Mr. Zavasky will be conducted in the Memorial Park Cemetery in St. Petersburg. Fla.
