Donie P. Julian

 

“I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” Philippians 4:13 KJV Donie Pierce Julian, 70, 1306 Lowe Street, Elizabethton, passed away Tuesday, October 27, 2009, at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center Hospital following a brief and courageous battle with cancer. He was a native of Elizabethton, Tenn., born to the late William Pierce and Florence Destie Johnson Julian. Mr. Julian was a member of East Side Free Will Baptist Church. He retired in 2001 following 19 years of service as a Carter County Deputy Sheriff, two years of which was with the First Judicial District Drug Task Force. Mr. Julian was the owner/operator of Julian’s Marine Repair. He had also worked for the Carter County Board of Education as a bus driver. He was an avid bear hunter and fisherman and a member of the Dashiell Masonic Lodge No. 238 F&AM. Mr. Julian served in the U.S. Air Force. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Patricia Ann Julian.

 

Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Hattie Joyce G. Julian, of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Renita and James Bunten, Elizabethton, and Jennifer and James Hughes Jr., Greeneville; six grandchildren, Bethany Hughes, Jamie Hughes, Amara Bunten, Rachel Hughes, Aundria Bunten and Alena Bunten; a brother and sister-in-law, D.H. “Bud” and Charolette Julian, Elizabethton; and three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Nadine and George Greer, Janice Garland and Jo and Al Hughes, all of Elizabethton. Several nieces, nephews and special friends, Henry Lowrance, Pat Lewis, Jimmy Peters, Larry Peters, Ralph Simmons, Johnny Holder, Gary Smith, Brad Smith, Don Wilson and David Russell, also survive.

 

The funeral service for Mr. Julian will be conducted at 7 p.m. Friday, October 30, at the East Side Free Will Baptist Church with Pastor Justin Deaton, Preacher Howard Messer and Dr. Richard Adams officiating. Music will be under the direction of Kathy Lethcoe and Al Hughes. The family will receive friends at the church from 5 until 7 p.m. Friday, prior to the service. Local law enforcement officers will provide honor guard services. Friends may also call at the residence at other times. The graveside service and interment will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 31, at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Preacher Mark Simmons officiating. Everyone is welcome to meet the family at the church at 10 a.m. Saturday to go in procession to the cemetery. Military Honors will be accorded by the American Legion Post No. 49. Active pallbearers will be James William Hughes III, Chris Hughes, Rick Nidiffer, Bobby Wilson, Larry Steve Peters, David Holder, Darrell Hampton, Matthew Lipford and Mitchell Lipford. Honorary pallbearers will be the men of East Side Free Will Baptist Church, members of the Men’s Class of East Side Free Will Baptist Church, the Hall Class of East Side Free Will Baptist Church, employees of the Carter County Sheriff’s Department, former co-workers of Julian’s Marine Repair, members of the Carter County Hunting and Fishing Club, the Daniel Boone Hunting Club, the Big Neck Hunting Club, Jim Henson, Dave Powell, John Henson and Tom White.
