John F. Shell
John Frank Shell, 86, 259 Shell Creek Road, Roan Mountain, passed away Friday, Oct. 30, 2009, in the Hillview Health Center. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late John A. and Rebecca A. McClain Shell. He was a retired mechanic with the Brinkley Ford Motor Company, Newland, N.C. Mr. Shell served in the United States Air Force during World War II. He was a member of the VFW Post 2166 and the Roan Mountain Masonic Lodge #566. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Ledford Shell, March 7, 2004; an adopted daughter, Marcie Shell; a granddaughter, Melanie Ann Shell; five brothers; and one sister.
Survivors include a daughter, Jacquline Hoss of the home; two sons and one daughter-in-law, John W. and Janie Shell and Jerald Shell, all of Roan Mountain; five grandchildren; 10 great- grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Sunday in the Lower Shell Creek Christian Church, with Mr. Gerald Holly, Minister, officiating. Graveside service and interment will be at 10 a.m. Monday in the Perry Cemetery. Active pallbearers who are requested to assemble at the church at 6:50 p.m. Sunday and also at the cemetery at 9:50 a.m. Monday will be Terry Miller, Landon Campbell, Charles Smith, T.J. Shell, John Shell, Jr., Jack Shell, Shane Hoss and Scott Bailey. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to the staff of Hillview Health Center for their excellent care of our father. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Sunday in the Lower Shell Creek Christian Church. Friends may also call at the residence.
