Melissa M. McMahan

 

Mrs. Melissa Michelle McMahan, 36, of Roan Mountain, passed away Sunday, November 1, 2009, at her residence. A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of Richard Guinn, Roan Mountain, and Kim Lyons Taylor, Elizabethton. Mrs. McMahan was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed being a mother to her three beautiful children. Melissa was preceded in death by her grandmother, Dorothy Guinn, two grandfathers, George Guinn and John Lyons, and one uncle, Johnny Lyons.

 

In addition to her parents, Mrs. McMahan is survived by her loving husband of 18 years, Jeff McMahan; three daughters, Kaila McMahan, Daniele McMahan and Emma McMahan, all of the home; grandmother, Dorothy Lyons, Elizabethton; step-mother, Barbara Guinn, Roan Mountain; step-father, Terry Taylor, Elizabethton; parents-in-law, C.W. “Topsy” and Ann McMahan, Roan Mountain; three sisters, Johnnie Potter and Heather Taylor, both of Elizabethton, and Sue Ann Foster, Roan Mountain; two brothers, Derrick Guinn, Roan Mountain, and Chad Guinn, Fayetteville, N.C.; and special friends, Marsha Garst, Kendra Farmer, Kathy Johnson, Jessi Whitehead, Stacy Shell and Amanda Heaton. Many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews that she will watch over forever also survive.

 

The funeral service for Mrs. McMahan will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, November 4, at the Roan Mountain Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home with Rev. Rick Birchfield and Rev. Mark Birchfield officiating. Music will be under the direction of the Cook Family. Interment will follow in the McMahan-Gibbs Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Chad Guinn, Derrick Guinn, Brian Potter, Iasac Johnson, Adam Birchfield, Derrick Birchfield, Tim Morgan and Matthew Shell. Honorary pallbearers will be Dylan Markland, Jerry “Bubba” Potter, Mark Guinn, Joel Guinn, Chris Guinn, Harold Guinn, James Guinn, Jerry Montgomery, Brian McMahan, Jamie Gladden, Mark Gladden, Rick Lyons and Bobbie Dean Hughes. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 1 until 2 p.m. Wednesday, prior to the service, and following the interment at the residence of Ann McMahan.
