Ole Barn tournament begins year No. 4

The fourth annual Ole Barn Christmas tournament tipped off Wednesday night at Happy Valley Elementary School, and once again the community response was palpable.
Patrons from the Carter County, Elizabethton and Johnson City communities came out in droves to see over 15 teams compete in basketball bracket action. Youngsters ranging in age from seven to pre-highs chool participated in the dual-gym roundball that will benefit Happy Valley elementary-level athletics.
Basketball action in the old gymnasium tipped off with the Blue Devils topping Happy Valley’s fourth cadet team 26-4 in 10U action. Leading the way for the Devils from the Elizabethton Boys & Girls Club was Ty Pierce, who racked up 16 points in the victory to lead all scorers.
