One juvenile is dead, a second is in critical condition and two others have been charged after an altercation in the Powder Branch area early Sunday morning.
Carter County Sheriff Chris Mathes said Elijah McKinney, 16, a student at Happy Valley High School, died around 2 p.m. Sunday.
Mathes said the CCSD was called to a residence on Cash Hollow Road at about 3 a.m. Sunday, where authorities found two juveniles had been stabbed. Both were taken to Johnson City Medical Center, where McKinney died. Mathes said the second juvenile was in critical condition Sunday evening.
The sheriff said two other juveniles were taken into custody around 8 a.m. Sunday – one charged with second -degree murder and aggravated assault, the other with tampering with evidence.
He said the two were being held in the Washington County Juvenile Detention Center.
