That’s how members of the Elizabethton High School Betsy Band characterize the band’s second-straight state championship and the third in four years.
The Betsy Band won first place in the Tennessee State Division II Marching Band Competition in Thompson Station on Saturday with its competition show called “Our Town.” In addition to the state championship, the band received second-place in color guard.
But earning the champion’s crown multiple times doesn’t mean band members are used to the thrill of winning the state’s top award.
“I can’t describe how it feels,” he said. “You have to experience this to know what it is like. It has definitely been worth it all; all the hard work, all the practices. I would do more if that is what it took.”
Samantha Stafford, also a senior, agreed that winning a state championship was something special just for the band members.
“It was so intense,” she said. “When it came time to go on the field, we were ready to do it. You could feel the energy in the air.”
