BRISTOL — It’s been a dream game for local college football fans. Virginia Tech and Tennessee at Bristol Motor Speedway. The halfway point between two great schools with gridiron success.
“Tennessee’s a couple of hours down the road and we’re a couple of hours down the road,” longtime Hokies coach Frank Beamer noted Monday. “Half of Bristol is in Tennessee. Half of Bristol is in Virginia. The setting is perfect.”
For 17 years, the Hokies were willing and ready to talk. The Vols, however, via previous athletic directors and football coaches, wouldn’t budge.
