The driver of a car that crashed on Rio Vista Hill Tuesday afternoon appears to have suffered a medical problem.
According to a report from the Elizabethton Police Department, the driver was identified as Wesley Todd Osborne, 45, of 2447 Dave Buck Road, Johnson City.
On Tuesday at 2:52 p.m., Officer Matt Sexton said he was dispatched to a crash on Highway 91 (the Old Elizabethton Highway). A witness said that a red Chevrolet Lumina was traveling eastbound and began to veer off the roadway for no apparent reason. The vehicle struck the guard rail and flipped onto its roof.
Osborne was trapped and had to be extricated by the Carter County Rescue Squad. He was transported to the Johnson City Medical Center. At the hospital, Sexton said Osborne seemed confused and could not give an explanation regarding the crash. His injuries were described as incapacitating in the police report.
“It is believed the crash is the result of complications from a medical condition,” Sexton reported.
A member of Osborne’s family told officers that the victim suffered from epilepsy.
The crash took place about 500 feet west of Taylortown Road on the Old Elizabethton Highway.
